South Carolina Licensing Information


Mortgage Broker Licensing Information:

The Mortgage Broker Act requires that all businesses offering Mortgage Broker services in the State of South Carolina file with the S.C. Department of Consumer Affairs. Their number is (803) 734-4200. 

The current Initial Filing Fee is $750. 

Renewal Fee is $550.  

Each Satellite Office fee is $150.

Originator Licensing Information:
Effective January 13, 2005, the Mortgage Brokers Act (as codified in SC Code Title 40 Chapter 58) requires that Originators register and become licensed with the South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs prior to originating residential mortgages.
 
An applicant for an Originators License must be at least 18 years old and must have at least six months of experience in Residential Mortgage Lending or complete eight hours of continuing education within ninety days of employment.
  • All Originators properly licensed in 2005 will need to complete 8 hours of Continuing Education before April 1, 2006 to renew their license.
